How to tell where a topic is used?

Just wondering if there is a way to tell where a topic is used? Would a CMS tell us which dita maps contain certain topics, if we needed to search for a specific one.

eg If we reuse a parts list and illustration from a parts catalog in an instruction, and then update the parts list and illustration in the parts catalog, how will we know that the kit instruction also needs to be updated?
