MathFlow to MathType transition

Hello all,

I am curious if anyone has made the move from Wiris’s MathFlow for Arbortext to Wiris’s MathType for XML Editors in Arbortext successfully. If so, were any problems encountered in your transition? Is there anything not covered in the MathType documentation that you found helpful to know? If your workflow involves publishing XML to PDF, are you able to print math with MathType installed? If so, which print engine do you use in Arbortext?

My organization has encountered some roadblocks with this transition, and I am curious if anyone else has made it succesfully.

Hi

We did recently introduce the ability to publish to both HTML and PDF using MathML. This is different from using MathType to generate images in that we do the following:

  • For HTML, we allow the browser to render the MathML as most browsers have this capability
  • For PDF, we use the MathJax library to render MathML as images

To facilitate this, we added the ability for a Styler stylesheet developer to ‘pass through’ selected namespace URIs to the rendering engine. Look in the Stylesheet Properties on the APP Formatting and HTML File and Chunk tabs. This feature simply ensures that XML in the selected namespaces get passed as-is to the rendering engine (APP for PDF, browser for HTML). 

We are working on a new method for PDF in which the APP engine can make HTTP requests to MathType in order to get rendered images from MathML and/or TeX, but this work is not complete yet. I will announce it when it is ready for release.
