Print FOSI XREF

I am using #XREF for linking document references when publishing to PDF. My setup is working for valid cross references within the data. When #XREF does not find a given ID match within my stringdecl (dead link) and returns an empty string, is there a way for me to display some alternate output? When this happens I would like to fall back on displaying some non-linked text instead.
