Schematron and SGML?

Does the Schematron/Check completness functionality in version 6 work with
SGML files? I'm wondering if this functionality is only limited to XML
files or has PTC done something within the editor to make it work with
SGML files?

I'm trying to get our content moved over to XML and schems, but I'm
getting some push back. One of the features I wanted to take advanatage of
was writing some rules checking in Schematron. If this functionality works
with SGML, then I don't have to try so hard to make the conversion. I
would still like to take advantage of schema features, but this would be a
big step forward.

The schematron check completeness works on the in-memory
document so that it doesn't matter if the original document
    was sgml or xml.
