Ability to Hide/Resize Filter Panel and Dynamically Expand Requirements View

Issue Details

In Codebeamer version 3.2.0.1.1, when working with complex filters in the Requirements view, the filter panel occupies a significant portion of the available screen space, reducing the area available for displaying requirements.

Additionally, when the side panel is collapsed, the requirements area does not automatically expand to utilize the freed space. The screen layout remains unchanged, limiting usability and making it difficult to efficiently work with large sets of requirements.

PTC has confirmed that resizing the filter panel is currently not supported in Codebeamer and that this is a product limitation.

Current Solution / Workaround

There is currently no available workaround or configuration option in Codebeamer 3.2.0.1.1 to resize, hide, or collapse the filter panel while allowing the requirements area to dynamically expand.

Proposal

  • Provide an option to hide/show or collapse/expand the filter panel.
  • Allow users to resize the filter panel width using a draggable splitter.
  • Automatically expand the requirements area when the filter panel is collapsed.
  • Save user preferences for panel size and visibility across sessions.

Benefits

  • Better utilization of available screen space.
  • Improved usability when working with complex filters and large requirement sets.
  • Increased productivity by reducing scrolling and improving visibility.
  • Enhanced user experience across different screen resolutions and display sizes.
  • Greater flexibility and alignment with modern UI/UX standards.

Business Impact

Users working in Codebeamer 3.2.0.1.1 frequently manage large requirement hierarchies with complex filters. Providing a resizable or collapsible filter panel would significantly improve navigation efficiency, reduce manual effort, and enhance the overall user experience.
