There is already another field with the same name/label

This issue occurs because when you delete a field in Codebeamer, it isn’t completely removed from the database — it’s only marked as inactive. The internal field key (technical name) remains reserved, so attempting to recreate a new field with the same name or label triggers the “already exists” error.

Here’s how you can resolve it:

1. Check the Admin → Tracker Fields list.

   • Go to the tracker’s Admin → Fields page.

   • Enable the “Show Deleted Fields” option (if available).

   • If the deleted field appears, you can reactivate it instead of creating a new one.

2. Rename the new field slightly.

   • If reactivation isn’t possible, use a variation of the name (for example, A_1 or A_New).

   • You can then rename it later once the old field is fully purged.

3. Database cleanup (Admin-level only)

   • In older Codebeamer versions (such as 3.0.0.2), field metadata is retained until a background cleanup process runs.

   • Your system administrator can trigger a cleanup or manually delete the residual entry from the tracker_field table if supported.

In short, the name conflict is caused by the soft-delete behaviour — reactivating or waiting for cleanup is the proper fix.
