Bulk File ??

I am trying to open a file that I found out is a bulk file. What is a bulk file and how do I open it? When I try to open I receive an error that states "Can not retrieve bulk item"

    A Bulk Item is an object that has no geometry, they are used for creating items in parts lists and BOM's. Example: 1 liter of lub. oil (not easy to model
