creating a mesh with some gradient

I have never created a CAD model of a patterned mesh with a gradient. I attached an image that kind of illustrates just the idea, but the mesh would need to fill the internal volume as well. Do I need a specific module to tackle this? If you can point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
