CREO2 Issue

Sorry if you are getting this twice, but the Sys Admin post I sent is taking forever to go through.

Just rolled out CREO2 and have 1 user with an issue. CREO froze on them and they killed it. Now CREO gets stuck at the Retrieve Previous session screen. It will not let us retrieve or cancel. I am guessing there is something that needs to be deleted, but I just can't find it.

Thank you,

Thank you David. I deleted the users .wf folder and the problem went away.
David suggested to only try deleting the files .wfwsi2008 and .Settings/active_serve_config.fid. Since the user didn't have any work to lose, I just got rid of the .wf folder and set them back up.

Does anyone use CREO without a PTC PDM System?

Our scenario: We strictly use SolidWorks, but have 3 ProE licenses (Wildfire 4.0 & Intralink 3.4).
I'd like to upgrade to Creo, but our current PDM (Intralink 3.4) is not compatible, and I'm sure
the company would not invest in their newest PDM.

    (Hopefully I am making sense)

    Thank you.

I also saw this issue when we had the imbedded browser set to Mozilla_based. As soon as it was switched to ie_in_sep_process it was fine as well.

    Art,

Most of my career I have been using Pro/E (currently WF5) without a PDM, but
you have to understand how Pro/E works in regard to the hierarchy of how the
software searches for files (files in session, current working directory,
search paths, etc.) It can be done but you might have some hic-ups along the
way with totally understanding these things in the background. I stumbled
into one recently in regard to creating a back-up which now I know works
different than creating a Save As. When you create a back-up Pro/E keeps you
working in the newly created backup file which is totally opposite than the
case of creating a Save As and you are still working on the original and you
must go open the new copies with the new names.

I do not have any experience with using Pro/E in a 3rd parties PDM.

I might be using SW soon and could use some knowledge of the similar
situation of using SW without a PDM, so I might get back to you directly on
    that later.

    Good Luck

We had the same problem with Mozilla based browsing, but wanted to keep that for Windchill performance.
We disable the session retrieval by setting the config option: last_session_retrieval no.

While I don't use it daily, I do have Creo loaded on a test computer with no PDM involved.
There is nothing magic about doing it, just install and run.

The trick is in HOW you decide to manage your files outside of a PDM environment. Like Mark said, the trick is knowing how Creo will be locating and loading your files. You can control a lot with a search.pro file, but it can also bite you.

Also, if you are having to rename files, always remember to have any other
files (assemblies, drawings, etc.) that refer to them in session before
doing so, and save each of those related files after the rename. On a big
project, there's a lot of bookkeeping to that process and if a particular
part that's being renamed is used in several different places, you can run
out of windows to keep the related files in. Best to keep a tally of what
you've done on paper as you go along, and make frequent back-ups of upper
level assemblies in temporary folders in case you have a premature exit
while you're working. I did several renaming operations on large projects at
my last job where we didn't have any kind of PDM; there were often several
false starts before I got a good handle on what I needed to do and document.

Is the option to clear all "surfaces" still available in Creo 2.0? I see an option to clear all appearances and clear by selecting individually?? I want to keep the color assigned to the part but want to clear areas of the parts that I previously highlighted in a different color. I do not want to go back and have to click the all individually surface patches to now clear them.

WF 3 gave this option. Wondering where it went?
