DO-178 and DO-254 certificates

Hi pros!

I know someone is out there who can shed some light on that. Our EEs are trying to figure out if they need to go

through the scrutiny of the DO-178 and DO-254 certification and/or require that the software they are using being

certified by these standards. So, they have asked what and if MEs are using something similar. I have not heared

anything like that and my knowledge on that is limited by some info I have found on Google. It is basically saing

that the software has to keep logs of errors and prevent from catastrophic failures (by FAA) and provide graceful exit.

Anybody? Anything?
