    I found a config.pro option called default_chamfer_scheme. It is a
    "hidden" option. Whatever that means. When I put that option in the
    option pop-up box and do a find on it, nothing shows up.

    Anyone know how to handle "hidden" config options?

    I would be nice to change the chamfer default to 45 x D.

    I found it!!!! Ureka!!! After years and years of questioning PTC and
    it was there the whole time!!!

    default_chamfer_scheme 45xd

    Add/change....apply and you're off!!!!

    That is still not right that is the same as config option
    chamfer_45deg_dim_text set to asme/ansi,

    I was answering the part mode default chamfer scheme question from Mr.
    John Wayman, which read as follows:

    Can I change which scheme it chooses to use as the default scheme? The
    default is DxD, which I don't recall ever using in my life. Each time I
    create a chamfer, therefore, I have to remember to change it to 45 x D,
    which is the one I use most .

    Any suggestions?

    It worked for me. All the option (default_chamfer_scheme 45xd) does is
    when you create a chamfer feature in the model, it automatically defaults
    45xD instead of DxD.

    It has nothing to do with the text display or asme/ansi standards.

    That is funny because I just sent an enhancement request to PTC. The
    config option chamfer_45deg_dim_text set to asme/ansi, ( or
    default_chamfer_scheme) does not work correctly or not per ASME
    standard, per asme it should be dim X angle, so PTC has the wrong
    functionality and are not conforming to the standard that they are
    calling out.



    As far as I know everybody has to change the chamfer dimensions.



    We should all try to create an enhancement request for this option, as
    you know, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

    It can be argued that PTC is compliant with the standard. See the following paragraphs from ASME Y14.5M-1994.



    1.1.4 Figures. The figures in this Standard are intended only as illustrations to aid the user in understanding the principles and methods of dimensioning and tolerancing described in the text. The absence of a figure illustrating the desired application is neither reason to assume inapplicability, nor basis for drawing rejection. In some instances, figures show added detail for emphasis. In other instances, figures are incomplete by intent. Numerical values of dimensions and tolerances are illustrative only.





    1.8.15.1 Chamfers Specified by Note. A note may be used to specify 45º chamfers, as in Fig. 1-42. This method is used only with 45º chamfer, as the linear value applies in either direction





    No where in the 1.8.15.1 paragraph does the standard specifically state that the linier dimension must precede the angle dimension. It merely says that a 45º chamfer and only a 45º may have its dimensions displayed in the form of a note.



    If you look back at ANSI Y14.5M-1982 you will see the figure shows the 45º angle preceding the linear dimension. Some people take this change in the figures as being a requirement, others such as me will direct you to paragraph 1.1.4, which can also be found in the 1982 standard at 1.1.3.



    PTC is not 100% compliant with Y14.5 they never have been, nor has any other MCAD package that I know of. I think that is why they give you draft feature so you can Mickey Mouse you way past the standard in areas where they do not comply. If you really want to complain about non-compliance take a look at how they measure up to AMSE Y14.41-2003.
