Add a column to the model tree. Choose "Model Params" and type the name of the parameter in.

Tom,

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I have a lot of files that did not use PTC_COMMON_NAME when created, I would like to use this to trim the file name

to use in a simple BOM. I was able to add a column to the model tree, but that has not allowed me to change the value and I don't see

it listed in the (tools) parameters box.

I am some what new to Creo and this may my issue.

William,

Tom's solution works well. In Part/Assembly mode you can add PTC_COMMON_NAME column into Model Tree and enter the appropriate value into Model Tree cell. Then you must regenerate part/assembly.

Unfortunatelly PTC_COMMON_NAME parameter is not displayed in Parameters dialog box.

William,

I know only one way ... create a relation PTC_COMMON_NAME="some text description", verify it and remove it.

Martin,

That worked up to a point I will spend more time working it out

So what I did was to create a new parameter named "common_name" as a string

and put text "right" in the value.

I created a relation of ptc_common_name = common_name

In model check it shows in param_info

common_name with a value of "right"

ptc_common_name with a value of "common_name"

So that is a start, next I will try it out in a BOM

it seems that you can't edit "ptc_common_name" directly

Thank you for the help.

The only way I know to edit the "ptc_common_name" parameter is to use the rename command. Once you are in the rename dialog, select the "rename in session" radio button. The "common name" field should then be editable. After changing the value you can "OK" out of the dialog without actually renaming the file.

It is the very definition of "roundabout" but it seems to work.

If you select "Rename in session" option during rename as you can change ptc_common_name and after save the model you will see new ptc_common_name .

I tryed it without windchill.
