miniature shock adsorbing damper?

I know this is not exactly a Pro-E question, but does anyone know where I can find a vendor that stocks off-the-shelf miniature shock absorbing damper? I have thought about using visco-elastic foam, but I would prefer to slow the object (~ 1/2 lb) to a stop over a controlled free-fall of about a six inch distance if possible. The foam is my back-up option, but the controlled free fall would be less as I would need to use thinner foam.
Specifically, I am looking for an inexpensive plastic damper ($5 range), and did not see any on McMaster-Carr.
