Sketcher ellispe that's not horizontal/vertical

Hi everyone,



Is there a way to create an ellipse in sketcher mode that is not in the
horizontal/vertical direction?



I'm not sure if that's clear or not... I hope so.

    Hi Roy,



    As I know, it is not possible, ellipses are basically controlled in X
    and Y directions. I had similar case some months back. I tried in
    several ways...by trimming them in to halves and rotating them by
    required angle. But, ellipses or part of ellipse sections can be rotated
    only by multiples of 90 degrees.



    The way to handle this case is to create curve equation.

    There is another way, but leads to converting ellipse into a spline.



    First create an ellipse on a dummy part and extrude it. Then, try to
    create another sketch on part in angular position (angle=which you want)
    and use "use edge" option and select ellipse. Save the sketch (.sec
    file).

    Exit the file (no need to save dummy part).



    Open the actual file you are working, and after going to sketch mode,
    use the existing ".sec" file. I know this is loooooooong route, perhaps
    only the way!

    The way to do this is to use a plane at an angel as your sketcher
    reference plane. That way you control the hor/ver orientation.

    My understanding is that this is not a mathematically exact ellipse, but you
    can get very very very close by creating 4 conic sections

    The crucial steps are that the conic sections are 90 degrees to the
    centerlines, and entering the relation

    Sqrt(2) - 1

    (which is approximately = .414)



    for the rho value for the arc (that's the dimension that looks like a
    radius)

    Roy, another idea:



    First create a new datum plane that is at the x* rotation offset from
    your current co-ord system, and normal to your desired sketch plane.
    Then when creating the ellipse choose this new datum plane as the
    left/right/top/bottom reference.
