In order to use those icons to which you are referring you must use the New measurement tool. Option is - enable_k01_msr_anls yes/no*. I tried it.. don't love it and it is no by default so I decided to not use it.
I tried the new tool too and I went back to the old one in seconds. There are long standing usability issues with the current measurement tool, but the new one is far worse. I hope they do a lot of work on it before making it live.
