Creo - Any info for developers?

Hi All,

Does anyone have info on the developer support for Creo?
PTC site doesn't say anything.

Will we be able to use existing ProToolkit code base or do we have to
discard that completely?
IMHO there should have been at least some minimal info on the PTC site, or
maybe I couldn't find it.

PTC is discontinuing all support for Toolkit, J-Link, VB, etc.

Well, that's the rumor I'm starting until I hear for sure otherwise anyway

Then you can't claim my rumor is wrong then...

Until this is clarified we are all in danger of it or parts of it being true.

Here...scroll down in this list....you'll see the new name of your customization tools.....it maps the names of the products to the new names in Creo....it's all still there. Frankly, I think it would be more work for PTC to stop supporting these customization tools than continuing support. Don't forget...some of the products PTC sells were developed using their own Toolkit.

They are probably still thinking of a way to discontinue Toolkit,
which users have been paying maintanence on, forcing them to buy
something else at twice the original price that does almost the same
thing. Almost the same thing, but missing one core piece that is
packaged into another product you will have to buy, which the only part
of that product you need is the one core item they took away, so 99% of
that price (and maintenance) is wasted money. Then all of your old
programs will need converted to the new tool. You can rewrite a
lifetime of programs, or you can use an automatic migrator that they
sell for that. But they will only sell it to PTC certified
consultantants who you have to pay to come in and do the migration for
you 🙂

I don't know for sure what exactly is contained within the new "Toolkit" itself. Logic tells me that it has most if not all of the original Toolkit functionality plus new capabilities related to the new capabilities of Creo. I would wager that PTC would be EXPANDING the capabilities in the Toolkit, not contracting them. I make this assumption on the fact that they're essentially combining multiple tools/applications into one new one. Clearly, the largest and most influential of those tools is/was Pro/E. So it makes sense that you start with this and add onto it. I would expect new commands would be added to start taking advantage of the other products in the new Creo family that used to be completely separate products. Maybe I'm just being an optimist here.
If they have actually thrown out the code they used to develop Pro/E and started from scratch to create Creo.....then you can be worried but I highly doubt they did this.....

All in all...I wouldn't be too worried that truly earth shattering changes will be coming. Historically....outside of sales/marketing/branding.....PTC does not exactly move at the speed of light (no offense PTC). Coming up with the product ideas and cool logos is easy (and fun I bet)......developing the product is much much more difficult....which is why Dilbert was invented and why I laugh and cry at the same time when I read those cartoons.
