Pro/Toolkit Compiler Support

Is it possible to use Pro/Toolkit with Visual Studio 2005, or Visual
Studio 2008? Just received a laptop upgrade and neglected to ask this
question before the new software was installed.

OK, before anybody fires back with the obvious question... I'm on
Wildfire 3.0.

Jim,
You have to remember to separate the IDE from the compiler and linker. The
Visual Studio software is an IDE that is bundled with a compiler and
linker from a specific version of the Windows Platform SDK. Here is an
example scenario.

I have Wildfire 3.0 and MSVC .NET 2008. Can I compile a Pro/TOOLKIT
Wildfire 3.0 application?

Yes.

However; I need to execute some extra steps in order to do this
successfully:
Download the Windows Server 2003 Platform SDK R2. This contains the
compiler, linker, and runtime libraries that PTC supports. The software
matrix for WF 3.0 Pro/TOOLKIT states that it supports .NET 2003. The SDK
mentioned also contains this compiler, linker, and libraries.
Open an environment (command prompt) for the architecture and build that
you desire. These environment batch files come with the Platform SDK and
are accessible on the Start menu.
Start MSVC .NET 2008 and configure it to use the compiler, linker, and
libraries of the Step #2 environment. In the environment command prompt
window type: devenv.exe /USEENV (assuming the path to devenv.exe is in
your PATH variable). This will start MSVC .NET 2008 IDE pointing to the
proper "stuff".

You can also use this process for any of the Express edition IDE's.
