Suggestions for Improving Creo

Here are some ideas to reduce friction and improve Creo. These suggestions come from my experience using other software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Rhino, ParaView, Discovery).

  1. Allow users to customise mouse controls for pan, zoom, rotate and selection. My preference would be to use the mouse alone to pan, zoom and rotate, and Ctrl and Shift for selection and window selection, similar to AutoCAD and ParaView.

  2. Add a quick command search (Ctrl + Spacebar) so users don't have to spend time navigating the GUI, similar to ParaView. It's faster to type a known command's name than navigate tabs and ribbons.

  3. Allow hotkeys to toggle between states. For example, Show/Hide could be assigned a single hotkey (e.g. Spacebar) to toggle the visibility of selected objects in the Model Tree or Graphics Window, like FreeCAD.

  4. Allow sketch points to be fixed without defining dimensions, like SolidWorks. Locking only prevents the user from dragging a point, but does not prevent it from moving when constraints are applied to the sketch.

  5. Allow users to reposition dimensions while dimensioning. Currently, three middle-mouse clicks are required before being able to reposition the dimension text, which seems excessive.

  6. Allow equation driven curves to be patterned using parameter lists/series, so the equations are re-evaluated at each instance. For example, a profile that varies in shape with radial position.

  7. Allow surfaces/manifolds to be defined directly using equations, similar to Ansys Discovery.

It's probably best to incorporate all these suggestions by creating a specific idea for each one because, given the way this discussion was started, it's unlikely to gain much traction.

    But that's just my opinion.
