How long will CoCreate Model Manager remain as the Creo Elements/Direct solution for CAD Data Mgmt ?

Is it reasonable to invest now on a migration from WorkManager to Model Manager ?

Model manager lacks workflow and a web portal. R&D investment in the product over the past few years as been sparse. Some people have been successful with it, while others wish they had other options. in the Creo presentation, Heppelman said "...Windchill is THE data manager for CREO...."

A 100% out of the box install of MM is probably a good idea. Don't customize it, whatever you do.

Well, the short answer is that one can continue to use Model Manager for at least another 5 years, and probably longer. Now within that 5 year period, in fact probably when Creo 2.0 is released, one could begin using Windchill to manage Creo Elements/Direct data. So, this leads to your next question...

Is it reasonable to invest now on a migration from WorkManager to Model Manager ?

To say this question another way, should you migrate from WorkManager to Model Manager now, or wait until Creo 2.0 is released?

There is no one answer I can offer on this question as it really depends on a lot of variables within your company's situation. There are many benefits in moving from WorkManager to Model Manager (top down save, partial or lightweight loads, etc., etc.), so if it's important to get these benefits now, a move to Model Manger may make sense. Of course this also depends on your level of customization. It may be the case that some of your WM customizations have become standard features in Model Manager, which may make the migration easier.

To answer this question it would be best if an assessment was done to determine what your "as-is" situation is, and compare it to what your desired "to-be" situation is. If the benefits of attaining this "to-be" situation out way the costs, then it probably makes sense to migrate now. You should consult with your local Creo technical/sales team to begin the assessment if you haven't already.
