Wildfire5e and creo elements/pro

So let me get this straight with the naming. Wildfire5 stopped at
m060, and creo elements Pro started at m065? Is that correct? So Creo
elements pro is the exact same as WF5, other than the name?
Here we have now spent a couple months time testing the "most recent"
version of WF5 (as listed in the downloads page), and turns out its
older than dirt, after all of our testing was approved. (well, we do
have some issues) And I still dont know if Creo Elements is the same
as WF5. Go live date is almost here, I cant just throw on the latest
Creo elements without the team redoing the months of testing scripts
again.
To name a new release something different, I suppose thats OK. But can
someone tell me one benefit of renaming a product VERSION half thru its
life?

PTC changed the name as part of a ProE rebranding and to begin getting
users accustomed to the name. Creo Elements Pro 5 is the exact same as
Wildfire 5.0. Just think of it as a Maintenance Release. The only
difference you will see is that the words "Creo" will appear in places that
Wildfire would have in the past. The interface is functionally and visually
the same in both versions.

Yeah, they did it for the users, sure. This was a marketing idea to get
the Creo name out there and was a disaster in my mind. Some of us
caught on early that CEP5 = WF5, but many still don't understand that.
And to have two different download areas is just icing on the cake.



So now PTC has one product with two different names (Wildfire 5, Creo
Elements Pro 5) and one name (Creo) on two different products (Creo
Elements 5 & Creo Parametric).



Whatever 'brand awareness' that they got from renaming WF5 to CEP5 is
far, far outweighed by the mountains of confusion out there on what Creo
is what.

areas.

I agree with Doug that it was a Marketing Disaster.


Why take your crown jewel of 25 years and disrespect it by changing it's name one release before you retire it? I belive PTC was looking at new potential customers and they did not want them to think that getting Wildfire was going to be older software than the recently announced Creo. So it seems to be a Marketing decisions but no one will really know for sure.


It makes no sense to the current users and It's ashamed they could not retire Pro/ENGINEER with a little more respect. If Pro/E retired at Wildfire 5 and then Creo came along, it would have been easy to understand, but to rebrand it one version before killing it was a bad choice in my opinion.
