Workflow Diagrams

We have some pretty detailed workflow diagrams on some of our processes here. Would there be any value in sharing them with you guys? I'm not sure if I can or not, but if it would be valuable to this effort, then I can look into it.

    Hi Nolin,

We would like to understand your workflow, but I think it is a little early. When we reach that stage in our design process, we will start reaching out to all of you for inputs on use cases, I think that would be the right point in time to share any information on use cases.

    Thanks

    Hi Nolin,

Do you have the 'Integrity Docs' add-on installed?

    I don't think so. I don't think I know what that is.

    Hi Nolin,

without knowing exactly what intention you had when bringing up this topic, let me try to summarize a bit what we have in the area of workflow diagrams:

    Documentation:

    1. You can at any time create a  PNG file out of a workflow (see button inside Type Def Admin form)
    2. Additionally, please see Integrity LM: Administration Configuration Reports

    Workflow Improvements:

If your interest was totally different and you had in mind to get the Item Type Workflow improved, then we should create an Idea (or use the existing below) and follow up in that then.

    New UI:

If your interest was related to the new UI initiative, we would also be interested in the challenges you are facing today and your improvement requests, especially from End User perspective.

his was in response to the Personas discuss for the UIWG. It was mentioned that PTC would sit with different customers to see how they worked. I figured these would provide some insight into our workflow. We have a bunch created at different levels of detail.

Unrelated...I just need somewhere to type this before I forget it again...one of the important things for us is that if we use an add-on to update an item, we need to see the effect of that update without having to refresh the entire document. One of many use cases we have is for cross references to tables and figures. Since this is an incomplete capability in ILM, we've implemented the missing pieces of it ourselves. When we run the add-on, it replaces the text "[ref]" in the Text field of a node with a cross-reference to the table or figure. Having to update the entire document just to see that change wouldn't work for us. I'm not sure how difficult this would be for a web UI but this is very important for us as we have a lot of custom add-ons for working with documents.

    Hi Nolin,

Can you elaborate on the information you have shared here - can you tell me more about the add-on & how it helps with the refresh to see the effect in the entire document. You mention about cross-references so I assume you are referring to Bookmarks & Cross-references that is available in the Document View and you have a built a feature around gaps - can you tell me more about the gaps.

    Thanks

    Hi Nolin,

This information is very valuable to the project and we will be actively pursuing this level of detail from our customers, so your offer to provide is appreciated and timely.

There is an add-on called IntegrityDocs that some customers have already installed, for those who haven't it's a no-charge add-on and we will make it available on this group. After you have the add-on installed you can run this command and it will generate a report that outlines your setup and configuration. This will help us understand what you use and don't use and provide insight into "how" you use different capabilities.

The added benefit to having this add-on installed is it makes audits easier and can be a basis for creating training material!

    Thanks,

    Steve
