Hello. Im wanting to communicate with some ABB totalflow  computers through Factorytalk SE. Do I need just the ABB Totalflow driver or do I need the OPC connectivity suite as well.

Hi,

If you’re trying to integrate ABB Totalflow computers with FactoryTalk SE, you’ll need both the ABB Totalflow driver and an OPC connectivity layer.

The reason is that FactoryTalk SE communicates through OPC (DA or UA). The ABB Totalflow driver handles communication with field devices using the Totalflow protocol (DB1/DB2). Still, it must be hosted on an OPC server, such as KEPServerEX or TOP Server, to expose that data to FactoryTalk SE.

So, in short:

  • You need the ABB Totalflow driver to communicate with the devices.

  • You also need the OPC connectivity suite (like KEPServerEX) to bridge that data into FactoryTalk SE.

If your driver is already installed as part of an OPC server package (for example, in KEPServerEX), then that’s all you need — no extra software required. But if you only have the raw driver, you’ll need the OPC suite as well.

Thanks,
