Perpetual node-locked KEPServerEX license transfer to new machines — no account access

Hi,

We currently have around 30 KEPServerEX installations with perpetual (node-locked) licenses on different machines. We are planning to replace those machines one by one, but we want to make sure we do the transfer correctly without risking:

• losing the licenses
• having them become invalid
• or incurring additional costs

We understand that the standard procedure is to use License Utility → Transfer a product activation to generate a transfer request file, upload it to the PTC licensing portal, and then activate the license on the new machine.

However, in our case, we do not currently have access to the original PTC licensing account / login information that was used when these licenses were activated. This is one of our main concerns.

Before we proceed, we would appreciate clarification on the following:

  1. Is the above transfer procedure the correct and safe way to move node-locked perpetual licenses to new machines without penalty?

  2. Since we do not have the original account credentials, what is the recommended way to retrieve or reassign access to these licenses?

  3. If a mistake is made during transfer, can the licenses still be recovered without extra fees?

  4. Is there any scenario where PTC would charge for this type of transfer when the license is perpetual?

We can share screenshots of our License Utility (showing Activation/Flex IDs) if needed.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Greetings @NY_14492411 ,

I hope you're doing well.

First, I recommend verifying the eligible version for your current license so you can confirm the latest Kepware version it supports. To check license eligibility, please follow the steps outlined in article CS456887.

Yes — the standard and supported procedure is to use the License Utility → Transfer a product activation to generate the transfer_request file, and then upload it to the MyKepware portal (https://my.kepware.com/).
For detailed instructions, please refer to article CS285278.

If you do not have access to the old MyKepware login, you can simply create a new MyKepware account and use it to activate your licenses. After activation, the license IDs will automatically be associated with your new account. To create a MyKepware account, please refer to article CS303823.

If the transfer fails for any reason, please share the license ID with us (not in the community — please create a support case), and we will assist you with completing the transfer. In the meantime you can use emergency activation ID.

Finally, please note that PTC does not charge for transferring license IDs.

If you need any clarification or further assistance, feel free to let me know.
