Mold Machining Extension

Clive,

I don't have the Mold machining package but I believe it is meant to make mold machining easier and your wallet lighter by about 5k.

Not sure how many people have this package, but after machining molds with what we have with the complete package for 20 years I see no need for this additional expense.

I stumbled upon your question while looking for more information about MMX.

Now I will try to inform every one who stumbles in the future about the "formerly known as" MMX, nowadays called HSM (High Speed Milling) extension.

This extension is developed/programmed with the help of module works (https://www.moduleworks.com/de/) which offer many companies their help.

The BEST part is, when you have it,

you can use it in three ways (and that is one of three good advantages):
In General:
You can use a volume, workpiece or an STL-File as a Workpiece.

Regarding REST (the three ways):
a) Calculate a Path regarding a Tool that roughed before

a+) PLUS you can use a BALL Tool (with a radius greater than the tool before) after a FLAT or D32 with R2 Tool for instance (that is something that is not working well in the normal NC-Routines).
So to understand what I mean is: Use a D16_R2 tool and then rest-rough with a D10_R5 tool. The pathes are way too much and do not remove only the necessary places. It touches almost everything that was machined with the tool before.

b) use a Volume you create WITH ONE CLICK onto the former path and the workpiece/slug.

Inside the nc-machining you create and use it. Without HSM/MMX you can createit, but you have to save, export, import, etc. and then, it is still not working that good!

c) use a STL-File you got from scanning or somewhere else, you can use it here..

And always, you can generate a REST-Volume that you use in the next HSM-Step (With one click, as described above).

So you always remove only parts that are really there. It is not calculated by the tool that was used before. You hand over the stock model from the step before.
And THAT is the great advantage in my eyes.
