Select Browser for Help

After a Wibdows 11 update some weeks ago, Microsoft Edge version 150 closes a few seconds after it is opened. This is not a problem for me normaly because I prefer to use Google Chrome. However Mathcad Prime seems to insist on using Edge.

I have set Chrome as the default browser and then installed Prime 12.0.0.1 even though I use English as the Prime language. Still no good.

Does anyone know how to get Mathcad Prime to use Chrome?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

If you do not use Microsoft Edge just uninstall it.

Cheers

Since March 2024, Edge has been easy to remove in Windows 11 via System Settings, just like any other app—though unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge this applies only to EU regions.
As the rendering engine of edge is also used by windows for other widgets, etc. you may still see in task manager  Edge working in the background, but the stand alone browser should be gone.
If the region used in Windows is not in the EU, I guess it would probably be a bit too much trouble to reinstall Windows and select an EU country as the region during setup just to get rid of Edge..
So you’d have to follow the instructions for uninstalling Edge published online by various more or less competent sources.

Thanks for your response.

Not so easy. It seems that Microsoft has made Edge an integral part of Windows 11 and cannot be (easily) uninstalled like other apps. The best that one can do is a “repair” of Edge which downloads and reinstalls Edge version 150. Same problem.

I am hoping to avoid complicated “rabbit holes” like trying a Windows 11 repair.

I currently have Edge v151.0.4129.59 and do not see this kind of behavior.  Prime Help Center opens fine on-line.

You also have the option during installation of installing the help center locally on your machine.  Of course, this takes up some hard drive space.  However, it still triggers Edge to open the help system from the local files, but your observed behavior might be different.

Thanks for the information -- I never got a chance to try Edge version 151. However I have become convinced that the issues that I experienced with Edge and Mathcad Help were entirely related to corrupted Edge and had nothing to do with Mathcad.
