XML files do not open

O.K. I have saved this file in  compressed folder .   I have tried to open it repeatedly and I am told it is not a valid XML file.  Why does this occur and how can I correct it

Can't tell you why this occurred but I can only confirm that the file is not valid. It consists only of bytes with the value FFhex.

There is no information stored in that file anymore.
