Question

Why can't I select a specific version of Mathcad to download from the link?

Hi, This does not help. The download link takes me to the email request form. There is no option to choose the version. I need to install version 10. I have version 11 but I need to share files with  a client that is using version 10.

Howdy,

IF you're referring to the 30-day trial, well, it's trial software and it only installs the latest version. I think it's reasonable that a free software trial only gives access to the latest and greatest.

If you're working with clients, you should purchase your own licence of PTC Mathcad Prime, which entitles you to choose which version to download going back to 7.0.0.0.

If you're referring to... the student version, it only allows you access to a specific version, which is clearly stated on the product description. (You also shouldn't be having a client because that would go against the student version's terms of use.)

Hi,

I use this software for school. I don't know what licence my university has purchased. I usually do most of the work I need to do using the Express version that I have installed locally on my personal computer. To use all features I need to connect to the university network through the VPN to access the server based licence, which tends to be cumbersome. This appears to run whatever version I have installed locally and unlock the additional features. By client I mean the sponsor of my Sr. design project, not a professional client.

If ptc chooses not to include any backwards compatibility, at all, for any version, they should provide some method for sharing compatible files, or at least better options for selecting which version you install. The existing situation in frustrating and inconvenient. Most individuals using this software will have a licence through an employer or educational institution and may not have total control of what version they are using. Someone is paying ptc for a licence, however I am not able to complete the tasks I need. This ensures that I will never purchase my own licence for ptc Mathcad Prime, but thanks for letting me know everything I'm doing wrong.

Cheers,

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for clarifying about the client and your situation.

The path of least resistance will then be for your project sponsor to upgrade the version they have installed to Mathcad Prime 11 similar to how you did. I'm wondering what instruction your university offered for downloading the software.

It's true that if you have Mathcad Prime 11, you can't save to a format that would be compatible for opening in Mathcad Prime 10. The closest thing you could do is to save it as a PDF, but that's only good for viewing.

If your sponsor gets Mathcad Express as a Prime 11-version reviewer (which can be installed on their machine side-by-side with their Mathcad Prime 10) they can open worksheets made with the full version of Mathcad Prime 11; they just wouldn't be able to change things that was made with the premium features.
