Following this guide, on 8.4.0 I am running into this issue. I have to log into composer and then navigate to the runtime. Login fails in the Runtime/WelcomeForm. This is fine to play with the trial edition, but for production I need to direct people to the Welcome screen to log in. Is this just a trial edition bug?

There is no such bug. We can login to Welcome screen directly by entering credentials.
Are you getting the login prompt like below while accessing Welcome page (http://hostname:port/Thingworx/FormLogin/Welcome)
What error you are getting while putting credentials here.
And which users are facing the login issue. Did you tried with Administrator and other users as well.
