The IPv4 address space is exhausted. The regional Internet registries are now only handing out IPv6 addresses. But, how does IPv6 enable access to the 20+ billion devices that are estimated to be in the IoT by the year 2020? And, since IPv4 isn't going away any time soon, how do we make IPv6 work side by side with IPv4? In this session, the presenter described IPv6 addressing and its operation. Plus, show techniques for writing one application to support both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols simultaneously.

Orbital ATK core business is to support the motors of various systems, which includes an assessments of the performance of the motors today and into the future. To facilitate these assessments information about the environmental exposure, is collected and analyzed to form performance predictions. The company has been developing a modular system which can capture this information from disparate technologies and integrate the information into usable data which is then processed to produce the performance predictions. As part of development of this system, different methods for collecting and transferring the data within the system have been investigated. This session summarized a proof-of-concept to investigate one such method that uses the ThingWorx IoT platform to collect, manage, and parse sensor data from remote assets. The presenter also shared the lessons learned developing an IoT system utilizing the ThingWorx platform on a real-world example from the rocket industry.
Wearables have had a sharp rise in popularity over the past few years. However, there’s still a lot of uncertainty surrounding how consumers are using them in their daily lives and if they are actually as beneficial as we believe. The main problem facing the widespread adoption of wearables is not that the technology isn’t advanced enough to make them useful; it’s that the products fail to provide enough value to make consumers continue to wear them once the novelty has worn off. However, integrating other aspects into the mix, such as new TV controls and personalized options, can help create more value for using wearables and increase more enriching TV experiences as well. In this session, the presenter discuss the future of wearable design and detail how wearables integrated with new TV technology can create more value for both consumers and companies alike. Plus, the presenter discuss the future of wearable design and detail how wearables integrated with new TV technology can

Data security is not a new problem, companies face significant challenges in traditional environments when trying to protect critical intellectual property and sensitive customer or employee information. IoT presents different challenges, unlike the traditional enterprise, information is typically travelling on untrusted networks, and through a range of different business partners and ecosystems. To take advantage of the key benefits of IoT- scale and speed - we need to think about data security differently. Security has to be delivered as close to the creation of data as possible and policy needs to be applied so that different parts of the ecosystem can access the information they need without compromising the data payload. In addition to the data problem, we need to be sure that our applications are communicating with the right devices - device identity and integrity is a key component of a secure IoT platform. Many of the current security challenges we see today are as a result of

Most organizations have multiple servers for data-centers, applications, etc. and each of these environments have their respective system monitoring needs. Typically, organizations deploy diverse system monitoring tools to monitor each of these systems for usage, performance and availability. These diverse set of standalone tools have limited capabilities and often cannot be integrated with other tools. The implication is that the organizations need to maintain multiple tools resulting in high cost and maintenance. It can also adversely affect informed decision making when information from multiple systems in needed real-time. In this session the presenter discuss how ThingWorx can be effectively deployed to connect different server environments (HW and SW) to create a Universal Server Monitoring System. The session also covered a brief demo on how to use ThingWorx Mashups and Edge Micro Server (EMS) to create a system monitoring application.

This session covered how anomaly detection works, when to best use it and how to install and operate ThingWatcher as part of your IoT solution.
Developing software for IoT comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. In addition, each IoT product is comprised of at least three separate application components: the software embedded in the device, the backend service, and the mobile application for the end user’s controls. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target – this makes the integration of these separate pipelines and the coordination of software updates for IoT is more problematic. How do you coordinate the diverse moving parts that must come together when developing an IoT product or updating each of its components? At this session, the presenter addressed some of the challenges and shared some tips and best practices used by IoT developers to streamline and accelerate their product design, development, test and manufacturing.
