Question

My Wildfire 4 student with "permanent" license has stopped working.

Hello,

I have been using Wildfire 4 student edition for a while and all of a sudden it opens but then closes. Its strange because nothing has changed on my PC, my host id is still the same also. I tried a reinstall and requested a non internet needed license from PTC but the new non internet license does the same thing. I know prior to Wildfire 5 that student edition licenses did not expire after one year so it cant be an expired license.

Thank you,

Neil Smith

    Hi,

if it starts and immediately crashes then something changed. For example graphics drivers ...

Please look into startup directory defined in ProE startup shortcut. If it contains files with current date (for example std.out), show us their contents.

Also you can create config.pro file (created in Notepad) in startup directory, put following option into it and test ProE launching.

    graphics  win32_gdi

    Hello,

No nothing has changed. I even tried using a backed up copy hard drive from several months ago when it was for sure working and it does the same thing.

The exception code is the standard generic code for error "Exception - code was -1073741819."

I have that "graphics  win32_gdi" in my config.pro already.

I have seen it do this before when not connected to the internet and unable to ping PTC.

    Thank you,

    Neil Smith

You don't just happened to have a wireless network card (or a change to the network card), do you? Possibly the wireless got turned on and that causes the license to think it's looking at the wrong MAC address on the network card.

Because this is an issue with a student license, I am moving this to the Academic community to give it more exposure.

I had the same problem even contacted PTC support. But no luck, the only answer was that they stopped supporting WF4. The only thing that works is to disconnect the computer from the internet then WF4 works fine. I figured that PTC disabled the software when it discontinued support.

I tried disabling my wifi adapter but it wont even start pro then. I also tried unplugged my cable modem and it starts pro but then shuts it right down just as it does if connected to internet.

I understand PTC can stop supporting software but how is it legal to disable the use of it?  I paid for it because it wasn't limited by time like the newer stuff is.

    Thank you,

    Hi,

get ProE WF4 M220 installation medium somewhere and install it. I hope it will work.
