What is your preferred training frequency?

Company policies and budgets aside – I understand that we cannot always get what we want (*Sigh* I am still waiting for George Clooney to take me out to dinner) – but what is your personal preference for taking training?

  • With every minor or major software update?
  • A beginner training only when you start working with a new product?
  • Once a year to refresh your skills and especially those you may not need on a day-to-day basis?
  • Or as often as possible in order to reach an advisor status in your organization who can then pass on knowledge to the colleagues?

    I think this depends on the individual and how much the software is needed. I started working for Land and Marine 5 years ago and hadn't used Mathcad before. Upon joining I quickly realised that I would need this tool to progress as an Engineer.

    I literally spent every spare second I had for about 3 years to get the level that I am now at.
