I am now going through this course, but approaching the 3 hour mark even though I am still long way from the end. Is there a way to extend the validity of the Virtual Machine so that I do not loose all the progress I have done after 3 hours?

Hello,

Unfortunately it is not possible to extend the usage time of the VM.
Today, training follows a standard 3-hour format.

Many trainings are available as Instructor-Led Training and Self-Guided and this format allow us to maintain consistency/standards for our training.

No worries. Thanks for letting me know. Mastery comes through repetition, so I will start over 😄

I am on exercise 7 now and run into a discrepancy between training material and Windchill.

When creating a variant, I go to Actions->Configure.

The Configure window that I see on the video recording has 5 stages with the last one being "Module Variant".

When I try to do the same in Windchill I only get 4 stages, with the last being Variant Specification.

So I create Variant specs, but no actual Module Variants it seems:

Have I missed a step or something?

Hi,

Please, may you try to check-In the Configurable BOM?

No that you mention it, it does say at the end of Exercise 6 to check in and checkout objects. However, I ignored it as I have not check out anything.

I cannot test it now as my session expired, but I will try to re-do everything tomorrow and let you know.

Pawel

I have another question on Exercise 7.

When creating the first of the two variants I do the selection in the Configure window.

I select Chuck Type - Keyed Chuck and would expect the Engine Size to be set to Standard automatically as it did when we played with Option filter in an earlier exercise. But that does not happen an I need to manually select Engine size to Standard.

Why is the selection logic not applied automatically when creating a variant? Or so it seems.

Hi,

I spoke to a PTC instructor and he answered me the following:

In Exercise number 2- Task 3 it is the only rule that we set until last exercise conditional rul. Before only this rule:

Task 3: Create an Exclude Rule

1.Select the top-level Drill – 1300 Series product in the left pane.

     2.Select the Exclude Rules tab.

3.In the Exclude Rules table, click the New Exclude Rule icon.

     4.Select the Chuck Type option.

     5.Select the Keyless chuck checkbox.

     6.Select the Engine Size option.

7.Select the Heavy Duty engine size checkbox.

8.Click OK to create the exclude rule.

This rule is one directional - This means by selecting "Keyless Chuck" Standard. Engine will be active.

When user select Keyed chuck  nothing happens and therefor needs to select Engine manually.

Important based on configuration rule- The Keyed chuck should be applicable for both engine.

Please, let me know if this helped with your question.

Thank you for explaining and the instructor was 100% correct. I mixed up the Keyless and Keyed and therefore thought that the behaviour was different, but it wasn't.
