    Happy celebrations!

    As a child, I remember when Italy participated in this soccer tournament to celebrate the bicentennial.

    The U.S. did not yet have a true national team, so the squad included players of various nationalities who were competing in the U.S. league (NASL), including an Italian (Giorgio Chinaglia).

      As a kid, I remember Pele playing for New York.

      I remember the Chicago Sting (living in West Michigan) and the Tampa Bay Rowdies with their slogan, “ Soccer is a kick in the grass”

      Pelé and Chinaglia both played for the New York Cosmos alongside Bobby Moore, captain of the English national team that won the 1966 World Cup.

       

       

      Pelé and Moore also starred in the movie *Escape to Victory* alongside, among others, Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine.

      Hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

      I am 2 weeks post prostrate removal surgery and have another 4 weeks at home before returning to work.
