Creo 1.0 vs. WildFire 4

Hello All,

We're starting to be courted by PTC to upgrade our current WF4 to Creo 1. I had them in last week to provide a demo to some of our local users, and like any demo by any software vendor, there were many ooo's and aaaah's by our users. Our users were especially impressed with the Flex Modeling Extension (which is not included in our current license).

I'm looking to get some feedback from those of you who made the switch from WF4 to Creo. Does it or does it not increase your productivity? Is anyone utilizing any of the new features effectively? I know when WF5 came out there was a bunch of hallelujahs because resolve mode was changed, but there was a lot of complaining about the drawing interface.
I want to avoid the scenario where one user saves fifteen minutes benefiting from the resolve mode changes, but it takes 15 users 5 minutes more to make their drawings.


I just don't want to spend a lot of time justifying the upgrade and additional cost to management and have the decision come back to bite me in the backside when it doesn't live up to the "hype".

IT IS TOO EARLY TO SWITCH. At the Planet Live conference, PTC stated that something's would not be included until M020. Typically we wait until several maintenance releases have been released. We would never switch at the F000 level.

Will is correct. It has just been released and it's also quite a big change.


However, I must say that I'm surprised how good the F000 is playing around with it. It's far better than any WF release and it feels as stable as WF5 M100 so it does look promising for the coming M-releases. M020 is scheduled for release Nov 18.


That said, only you can make the decision when to move and you must set up a test environment based on your hardware, config settings and , if you use, PDM. It's risky to base your upgrade on other companies findings as it can be totally different depending on what hardware they use.

Remember how when intralink got windchilled out, they had "intralink 8" and
it didn't have everything 3.4 had? but you had to pay XX% more to upgrade
your computers/servers/sorftware/license/training/admin didn't you?

Well its kinda like that with Creo. upgrade now, we have pull working! next
rev will have push, we promise!. We'll also remove the google sketchup logo.

Its not that bad, but its really different that's for sure. furniture makers
will get by with a little trouble, but turbine blade engineers or engineers
who do very specialized/technical work will probably have a hard time moving
on. There are engineers who are forced to use pro/e for their particular
need, but really could care less what they were using. These include
specialized CAE, behavioral modelers, plastics etc. They will keep using
what they are accustomed to because they don't care if creo can pull on
surfaces. That's my take.
