Creo 11 and slow performance

Recently downloaded creo 11 and have found that performance very slow compared to creo 10. Nothing in my set up has changed, hardware or software.

The on screen colours are poor. I did have the black screen and implementing win32_gdi improved that but when working with assemblies and moving/turning the model underlying redrawing happens and I've looked for an option that would cancel that but no luck so far - as I only need the 3D model. When using text on drawings the screen just flickers. I've tried open_gl too in the graphics (config.pro) but nothing improves performance.

I've made sure all the latest drivers are installed too.  Any ideas?

As I said, my set up worked fine with Creo 10.......

 

I've now seen online discussion between PTC and NVIDA about the performance issues with OpenGL under investigation - so in my reasoning the fact that it does gaming is somewhat irrelevant, its the OPENGL standard that seems to be the issue.... or at least an incompatibility at this time in the software with either or both.

Hi,

implementing win32_gdi always leads to slow performance. It is used for testing purposes only. If you can see black screen after removing win32_gdi then this means that Creo 11 needs different graphic card driver. It is up to you to find it and install it.

Hi Martin,

I'm using an OPGL compliant card; NVIDA GeForce RTX. This worked with Creo10 so I'm puzzled why Creo11 only works with win32_gdi but with a significant performance disadvantage. I don't recall what Creo10 graphics was set to, but it was certainly a better experience.

I'm not sure NVIDA would make a specific driver for Creo11, I would expect that an open standard (OPEN GL) would be the means of compliance but I must be wrong!! Its clear that my set up only works with win32_dgi for Creo11.

I've tried to determine if my graphics card is listed as "approved", although I believe I've read an additional cavate from PTC that any "approval" relates to the complete system, but no luck yet and if you have a link to such info that would be useful. So Creo11 seems to have taken a step back in compatibility perhaps for performance reasons dedicated to specific graphics cards - but that seems a bit daft for a student edition, unless there is no alternative once the a key decision has been made in the software build. I can still learn with Creo10 so I may yet just role back.

AFAIK NVIDIA GeForce cards are not supported by PTC. These cards belong to gaming area.

If you are on the latest Nvidia drivers, you likely need to downgrade your driver until you find one that works.

This is a million things between Nvidia, PTC and Windows that can cause an incompatibility. The whole certified system thing is just stuff that PTC has tested and "guaranteed" to work, it definitely doesn't mean it won't work on a lot of other systems.

I currently use Creo 8, I was using Creo 6, I have used Creo 11 and Creo 12, all on the same computer. All of the are working fine. It has nothing to do with student edition, it's exactly the same as the commercial license but adds specific information to your files so they can't be used on the commercial licensed software.

You're problem is a simple incompatibility between one piece of hardware in your system and Creo and the Nvidia driver. The only person who can really solve the issue is you. You have to work thru graphics drivers until you find one that doesn't have the incompatibility. In my experience, it usually only takes a handful of tries.
