eLearning Launch

Hello,



My company has just purchased a license of the eLearning library and I'm
trying to get up to speed on it so I can let my user's know how to take
advantage of it.



I noticed that one of the first steps in each class (I assume) after
downloading the course files, is to create a copy of the Pro/E launch
icon and change the start in location to point to the folder where the
training files were saved. This is to make sure that the course config
settings are set.



For those who have set this up, I have a couple questions:



* If your launch icon calls a custom launch script (batch file) to
copy configs and other things, how did you set this up for your users so
they could easily use the eLearning without the risk of them corrupting
their standard launch icons? In our case, the start in setting is
irrelevant as the final step in the patch file is to change to the
appropriate launch directory.



* How did you handle the use of a config.sup file? Did it get in
the way of the training configs at all?



* There's a config.win file in the training files as well, did you
have any trouble with conflicts with user or company config.win?

Setup the training so it uses special training accounts and not the users primary accounts. This avoids the company standard setup files and only loads what is needed for the training class. Most of the training files require you to start in the folder of the training files and have a small config.pro file to make sure you get the right things for that lesson. If you have things in a config.sup that may cause problems, then a second load of Wildfire may be needed with a very basic (or no) config.pro/sup/win in the text folder.

What do you mean when you assay 'accounts'? A special windows login?
I'm not sure how that's going to avoid the company setup files. Our
company configs are copied into the text folder, so getting around them
will be difficult. I really don't want to have a duplicate install of
Pro/E on each workstation just for eLearning.

This is why I use Network Install's for Pro/E.


A eLearning icon could launch a simple batch script that would point to specific loactions for the purpose of training and avoid any conflicts with the current system files.

I would not worry if your configs are diferent - personally I would like my users to get used to my company standards and configurations.Just take a look and understand what the differences are. Search paths are important for the training materials. So I set it up that system configs are loading in the loadpoint text dir as ususal, but proe starts in the training dir and reads their config.pro.

A training windows login with a custom batch file that does NOT copy your company standards would be enough. Since you use local installs, you may need to have the batch file copy a set of empty training config files when the user is logged into their training account. When logged into their normal work account, the company standard config files would be installed.

Ended up doing something similar - I created a special 'training' launch
icon that will be copied into the user's start menu. It points to a
batch file that will delete our config files from the local install and
then launch Pro/E. Once they finish training and re-launch Pro/E with
our standard Icon, the company config files will get copied back in.



I'm sure I'll have to deal with folks forgetting to use 1 icon or
another, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

I would agree with Dmitry: don't worry about different configs, etc. I enable people to use eLearning with our standard Pro/E setup, and have not heard any complaints about this...
