FlexLM lmadmin upgrade

Hi,

 

is the current lmadmin upgrade path, really uninstalling the old version and installing the new version from scratch?

In the past the setup recognized the old installation and upgraded it. at least a few years ago.

You've not specified what version of Creo you are attempting to upgrade to. If you are putting a new version of the lmadmin, if I recall correctly the last time I did it, you need to remove the old version, then install the new one. Be sure to have the latest version of your PTC license file for the new installation.

    Hi, installing the latest for Creo 12 - 11.19.6.1 - which shows as 11.19.6.0 in the webinterface...

     

    I found your thread, but in the past when a license Server was installed, you just had to start the setup and on the license page the GUI would freeze for a few minutes and upgrade the installed lmadmin in the background.

     

    was wondering this doesn't work, because we changed the port from 8090 to 8080.

     

    we do not have much special settings, but a few which need to be done on the fresh install...

    FlexLM docs still mention the "autoupgrade feature", so it has todo with the PTC modifications. probably the same as silent install...

    In the past, licensing was handled for you as a function inside the "setup" package you would download from PTC.

    Some years ago, PTC split the functions of installing Creo and installing the FlexLM license into two independent operations. This has been handy since we sometimes need to update the FlexLM license software but not Creo, due to security flaws in FlexLM, network compliance issues, etc.

    If you are wishing to run the latest version of Creo, you will probably have to update the FlexLM server, since newer versions of Creo require it. You will have to make sure to get a new license file from PTC, so all your modules will have the latest Creo versions.

    Keep in mind that PTC's implementation of FlexLM might differ from "generic" FlexLM. At least that's what I've found in the past. Sometimes you'll find that methods described by FlexLM don't necessarily work for Creo. Either they're implemented differently, or I made mistakes trying to use them, but that's what I've found in the past.

    I don't know what Port 8090 or 8080 is used for. Our licenses have always been obtained via Port 7788.
