intent edge chain selection

Hi all,




I saw a tip on selecting intent chains in WF5. :



Select the feature (extrude)

Prehighlight the edge (say the four corners of a rectangular cut for
rounding)

RMB for query select

Supposedly this will select all of the edges associated by that feature (all
of the edges made by the face of the extrude - or all of the edges made by
the extrude that are parallel to the extrude)



This is not working for me. Anyone use this successfully? Am I missing a
config setting? Are there limitations on the type of geometry that it works
on?



Looks like a great tip to use. Any thoughts?

I recently switched from WF2 to WF5, and it seems like intent edge selection has suffered greatly. WF5 almost never gives the intent edge/chain option that used to be available for most every command and feature. I haven't taken the time to figure out why, but it's very noticeable and annoying.

Works fine on Creo 1.0 M030


I am about to install Creo 2.0 F000 and take it for a test drive.


I can't recall if I had any issues on WF5 with intent chains.

Intent chains have been around a long time, maybe since release 2001.
At first I think you had to enable them with a config option, now they
should just work.



There is one caveat, however. If your file is from a release prior to
when intent chains were implemented, they won't work. That includes
build from an old start part. I still see files that won't allow intent
chains from time to time.



The good news is it's easy to fix. Simply roll back the model using the
model player (tools menu), make sure 'Regenerate Features' is checked
and roll back to the end. Intent chains should now work.

to the group. Thanks Tom and Doug. again. Here they are:

Surely it is possible that the start part I am using is pre 2001 - may even
be a throw-back to before 18.0 (!) I verified that if I create a new part
using an "empty" start part (Pro/E default?), I do get intent chains. I
also tried Doug's tip on rolling back and regenerating the model using model
player. This was unsuccessful for me - not sure if I am doing something
wrong. I tried it a few times / ways. both on my start part and on existing
parts.



Let me / us know if there are other ideas or thoughts on this.



I am convinced that this functionality is reason enough to create a new and
fresh start part using WF5 - a simple endeavor - but it sure would be nice
if I could make it work on legacy stuff.

I remember long ago there was a recommendation from someone to add the
following config.pro



logical_objects yes



Once you do a full regen of the part it would allow intent chains in old
parts.

Hmmm. long ago must be the key here. I cannot find any reference to an
option named as such - nor any options that talk about intent chains or
logical objects. Any other hints?

Looks like I remembered correctly.. All these threads talk about the
logical_object yes setting in the config.pro

Wow.



Paul, Thank you for being so persistent and patient with my disbelief. It
does work! To get intent chains to work, one needs to set the hidden config
option "logical_objects" to " yes"



Then, forcing a regen using the model player will "turn on" the ability to
select intent chains. This is a boon to my productivity. And likely
others'.



Since "productivity" is somewhat of a selling point for PTC, it makes me
wonder what they're thinking with this hidden, disabled functionality. A
quote from one of the links you sent (from the year 2002!) is my favorite:





2. Second, Force a complete regeneration of the model using #Info,
#Regen Info (older versions) or Utilities >Model Player (2001) to start a
regeneration of the model from the beginning.

Thanks again - I encourage all of you to set this option and use it. It's a
great tool!



Hey PTC. what's up with that? You invent a great tool and hide it? Why?
What else is there, hidden?
