License failure on Creo 2.0. What's going on?

Today in the classroom lab, none of the students could use Creo 2.0. Everyone got the dreaded License failure message.

I have a server license that has worked fine for almost 2 years. Suddenly today everything stopped. No changes to the Server.

I went back into setup on the server and observed that the 7799@cproom01 license had a status of ":unavailable".

Not sure why.

I deleted that license and reinstalled from the code given me by PTC two years ago (I was lucky that it was still available on the server- not sure where that is kept?). The server was back in action .

I then had to go in and fix a couple of files in Flex and License directories. to open ports. Everything was back working fine. Unfortunately, I lost a day of teaching, but it could have been worse.

The question is, Why did this happen? And is there any way that I can secure or preserve the license file in case this happens again?

Thanks for any suggestions.
