Question

Opening new windows on a wide 49" wide screen monitor

Hi All,

I'm working with PTC Creo 8.0.12.0, with a 49" Samsung wide screen monitor and a NVidia RTX4000 graphics card.

Allthough I'm very satisfied with the new wide screen I've got one issue I can't figure out.

I would like to use Creo at the right half of the screen, while using the left side for documents, email etc.

However every time I open a new window it's new position is on the left side with the size of about 90% of the whole screen. So every time I'm opening a new window I have to drag and resize it, which is very annoying.

Is there any way I can get Creo to open new windows at the same size and position as the main window?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't worked with the NVIDIA RTX Desktop Manager in a long time, but I believe you can control how & where application windows open.
There are also some third party software tools available that will divide a single monitor into multiple "virtual" monitors that may accomplish what you want.
https://www.displayfusion.com/Features/MonitorSplitting/ is one.

Hi

maximizing the size of Creo window at start up is done with the option :

open_window_maximized yes

other options can be used : https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS31876

Like recommended above, you can use third party middleware.

I recently came accross Dell Display Manager : https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/fr-fr/product/dell-display-peripheral-manager/overview

One of the feature enables to create window layout presets.

Also you can look for an NVIDIA utility if not already installed.

I tried the dell software but I couldn't get it to work. Maybe because my monitor isn't a Dell.

However during this search I came across the Fancyzones software from Microsoft. This seems to work, when I snap the main window to a predefined area all new windows are also opening in this size and position. So far so good, but the down side is that it also opens all popups in this size.. I.e. the "file open" window or the menu structure used for repeat regions for example are all opening full size. I'm trying to figure out how to solve this but so far without any results.

Hi,

I think you need some "configuration" routine. If you are a programmer then you can use AutoIt to develop an application which detects Creo window and set its size and position.

Don't know if this will change the position of the window, but maybe this will affect the size.
