Question for those of you who are using Creo without any PDM

This question is for those of you who are using Creo without any PDM software to help manage your files.  How are you managing the versions that are created when you save your models?  Do you use some type of software to purge these old files, or do you have to delete them manually?  If you have to do it manually, how do you ensure that a user doesn't delete more than they should?

First, make sure that you have accounted for any revision history that you want to maintain.  One way to do this is to save models with new file names such as "<PART NAME>_REV_X".

There are two ways to delete old file versions:

  • To purge old versions of all models within a directory:  Set the Working Directory > Utilities > Open System Window > type PURGE > Press Enter
  • To purge old versions of only a specific model:  Set the Working Directory > Open the model > File > Manage File > Delete Old Versions

Occasionally, the Purge command of the system window fails because the PATH environment variable is not configured properly.  For this, see CS36788: https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS36788.
