Unable to connect to license server

Creo is not able to fetch license from the license server. This is after connecting to Windchill via VPN. I am getting ping responses if i use the IP address but no response if i use hostname of the server. I have tried changing the server name in the ENV=PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE line of the parametric.psf file with no avail. What am I missing or doing wrong here?
