Windchill back-up drawings

Proe users,

I need to access 3 large assembly's from my clients Windchill server. I want to back-up these assemblies to my machine outside of Windchill and want to do this by opening the top level assembly drawing of each assembly and doing a File>Back-up. My question is what is the easiest way to also back-up all the drawings associated with any of the parts in the assemblies? I don't want to have to back-up these drawings one at a time, I have hundreds of parts. SolidWorks has a check box to do this and I believe I remember a config option in Proe that controls this. Does anyone know what it is?

The config option that you may be thinking of is
'rename_drawings_with_object' and it doesn't really apply to your
situation. It controls situations where you do a save-as on a part or
assembly to a new name and there's a drawing of the part or assembly
with the same name. In that case, and if set properly, Pro/E will make
a copy of the drawing with the new name automatically.



Unfortunately, there's no way that I know of to have Pro/E grab all the
drawings associated with all the parts in an assy. Now, there may be a
way within Windchill, but I'm not familiar with anything Windchill. You
also didn't say what Windchill component they are using, Intralink, PDM
Link, Project Link or Project Point?

Ryan,

During your "add to workspace" there should be a check box to grab all
drawings files. Once you have everything in the workspace you can export
it to disk. I've done this before using PDMLink but I believe you have to
have version 9 or better to have export capability. I suppose Intralink 9
will do the same thing but I have no experience with it.

There is no config option to backup up drawings. What you might consider doing
is exporting the workspace from Windchill and then working in it off line.

1. create Workspace
2. add necessary prts, asms, and drws (making sure you download the content)
3. export the Workspace: Tools | Server Manager... | Select appropriate
Workspace | Workspace | Export Workspace...
