Column Context with im viewsegment

I have a custom button that runs im viewsegment with the --gui option. The purpose for this is so that View Document will open the document as a tab on the client and my custom button will open it as a floating window. When I do this, it ignores the column context that I have setup for that document type. Is this intentional? Am I missing some option?
