pre-event trigger to change state of existing item when a copy of item is created?

We have a Type named "Test Equipment" which has a unique field named "Asset Pulse ID".  When a Test Equipment is copied we want a trigger to look for any duplicates of the Asset Pulse ID field and then change the state of the original item to Inactive.  I'm a newbie to PTC Integrity and would appreciate any examples to help me set this up.  We are using PTC Integrity version 10.9.
