PTC modeler standalone install failure

I'm trying to install PTC Modeler 8.5 in standalone mode on a Windows 11 PC. The installation fails. This also occurs for a server-only installation. Client installation works ok. The installation is run 'As Admin'.

The log file error appears to be something to do with the operation ARTAddOMSUser.

I've attached a log file for an example server installation that shows the error.

Can you shed any light on this error and how it could be resolved.

Hi again,

By experimentation, we found that manually pre-creating the 'oms' local user allows the standalone and/or server install to progress to completion. We believe the user account creation was being blocked due to the ever-increasing march towards IT security. Another possibility is that the user account creation password did not match the latest password rules so was being rejected; but we could not see evidence of this. Either way it seems getting our IT Crowd to pre-create the oms user account a reasonable work-around. After the install we checked the local repository status and everything appeared to be working ok.

Hello,

 

Modeler 8.5 is rather old and no longer supported by PTC. I've attached the release notes and as you can see Windows 11 isn't supported.

Thanks for the reply.

My apologies if I am not clear.

I already have the latest PTC Modeler and a current support contract. Some of our projects are stuck on the older v8.5 and have started to get install failures when they re-install or move PC.  Note the same problem occurred previously on Windows 10 (which is supported) although I am not able to confirm this anymore.  I raised an eSupport ticket. As my problem relates to a legacy version they directed me to the PTC Community for help.

I was hoping someone here might know if there is a solution or workaround. 

My inspection of the install log seems to be to do with adding the Enabler oms user. But I don't know why it would fail now.

Any help appreciated.

hi Paul,

We haven't tested Modeler 8.5 on Windows 11 so even if you manage to install it might not work correctly and therefore presents a risk to the data. Is there any way your IT can setup a Windows 10 system - you could use that for ongoing work, or use temporarily and migrate the data to the latest version of Modeler and move the databases to a Windows 11 system.
