What does Linear in MIL-HDBK-217F really mean

Hello, I was wondering what the Linear subcategory of ICs in Windchill really means. Is it a linear logic/gate array? Or a linear regulator? If it is the former, what should I select as the subcategory for a regulator IC if not "Linear"? Using version 11.0
