Need to read OPC data into Thingworx 7.3

I am using ThingWorx Platform Release 7.3

I have a Thingworx 7.3 installation that I need to bring OPC data into. All information available on the internet talks about an IndustrialGateway thing that apparently is only available in TWX 8.0 or later. Upgrading my installation is not an option. Are there any other option to bring OPC data into 7.3 Thingworx?

7.3 is from 2016, so I would seriously recommend to re-evaluate the "upgrading is not an option". 

The only alternative I see is to write an extension yourself to create the connection. That is, if you can find a valid combination of IDE, Java and Thingworx SDK and Eclipse plugin. All of that probably has to be from 2016 as well.
