Should existing Thingwrox service be running while upgrading thingwrox using installer in window

I am using ThingWorx Platform Release 9.4 and DatecodeSP1 During installer inplace upgrade of thingwrox in windows with postgress as persistent provider. Do we need to stop the service of the existing TWX running ? I didn't find the specifics regarding this.

Yes, ThingWorx service should be running when upgrading ThingWorx using installer. Otherwise, you may encounter an error such as: "ThingWorx Foundation service should be running before you begin the upgrade process"
