SQL Server 2000 Support

I am trying to connect to SQL Server 2000. I added a new driver in sourceforge jdbc driver which allows connection to sql server 2000, but this does not appear to work, I get one of 2 errors, thing not running or made 2 attempts.  Is connection to 2000 supported and if so how has this been done in the past.
